Really? I think the R8 is one of the coolest cars on sale today.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:31 |

Nope, hate the i8 too. Might as well be a 2025 Accord Coupe.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:31 |

I figured you would want to burn the AMG GT because you have been against the turbo movement lately. And might I ask why you hate the i8?
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:32 |

Like SLR said I thought the last two were Bavarian

![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:36 |

The name is pathetic
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:37 |

This one is really tough.
DD: i8 because it's just cool and will make me and everyone else smile.
Track: Mercedes AMG GT because it's a tighter, leaner, more muscular SLS
Burn: R8 for no good reason. I love this car, and I hate you for making me burn it.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:38 |
|
nah. because i think it looks like a melted turd.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:39 |

Yeah, I've seen a couple first-gen models in person and something about them just hasn't settled right with me for some reason. Maybe once I see the new one in person I'll be able to change my mind.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:40 |

Hey now you could have burned the bland AMG GT like everyone else. Don't hate the playa hate the game
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:41 |

They do have a rather odd body shape but I like it.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:44 |

No. I'm not against the "turbo movement" as much as you think. What I am against is the mass dropping of displacement and cylinders. I'm sick of turbo-4 everything, it's all the same shit to me and maybe there is a replacement for displacement, but no way ever for cylinder count. To me, it makes certain cars lose their identity and be compared to cars they should be compared to (i.e. 4C vs FoST/FiST/Mustang EB). I want small displacement turbo-8s, not turbo-6s. I'll gladly take a turbo V8 if you give me one, especially a Mercedes one because they are best. All modern cars are becoming to be are souless machines that just happen to look like the lovely cars of old.
You'll get my opinion on a 488 once I get to hear one.
I hate the i8 because of exactly what I said above. Yes, the i Division is supposed to distance themselves from the M-Division, but where the hell is the modern day M1-like halo car me and many others have been waiting for years to have even though I won't be able to afford one?? That car represents everything I hate, reduction to 3 cylinders and 1.0L.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:45 |

yeah I meant i3
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:45 |

Want to join my anti-i8 regime? :)
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:51 |

Fair enough. If the day ever comes when the V8 is removed from the muscle car turbo or not I will be pissed. Certain cars require certain kinds of engines.
However I am also open to new movements like the i8. It is an unwritten story and therefore no harm no foul with an innovative engine.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:52 |
|
Except for the 4C comment. that car is sex even with a 1.6L.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:54 |
|
I'll admit the 4C is indeed sex, but I've always wondered if it had a awesome sounding lightweight Alfa V6 under the hood...Even if it were to be turbo'd!
![]() 03/29/2015 at 13:59 |

You and I both know damn well they will take our V8 from us, one way or another. What they'll probably do is stop producing it mainstream and reserve it for only expensive as hell, low-volume specialty machines that will be priced out of just about everyone's range unless you're in the like top 20% of the worlds wealth which I'm sure none of us will ever get even close to. Because the govt couldn't give any shits about what engines we want..All they care is how they can make money and what steps they can take to better themselves and make it seem like we'll be satisfied with whatever we get because it's spoonfed to us that the newest thing will be better..
And then they'll take the 6-cylinders, then the 4s, and give us all electric and 3 cylinder hybrid crap I want nothing to be apart of.
BMW, just give us a god damned M1 and we'll all shut up about it. It can't possibly be that hard to do.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:03 |

DD: AMG GT
Track: R8 V10
Burn: i8
I wanted to hate the AMG GT, but all I can really hate about it now is its stupid name.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:07 |

Indeed
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:12 |
|
I think when that day comes, and I agree it will, we will just have to revert to buying classic cars.
My hope is hybrid tech evolves along and instead of downsizing engine cylinder count they will just supplement the V8 engine and cars will become more green. If not there is always option one to revert back to. Besides classics are more raw and fun anyway. Just wouldn't want to DD one.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:13 |
|
I would still rather have an SLS
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:16 |
|
This is the only correct answer. Or just DD and track the GT and burn the other 2.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:21 |

And it just pisses me off that everyone's like "I look forward to our turbo/hybrid/electric/driverless overlords" without a hint of doubt. Like waiting for the next iPhone because it's simply going to be better in every single way they say. Does it not reach a point where someone or some people will just get together and yell as a combined voice that "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"?? Can we stop listening to everything the govt. tells us and think that maybe newer isn't always better?? Maybe, just maybe this technology is going too far? Don't even get me started on OBD-III...
Look at the star wars movies; the first three with antiquated effects and sets were and still are amazing spectacles, everything was done by hand, everything was made with precision emotion and skill. The last three are CGI filled to no extent and everyone is sitting in front of a green wall in a green room staring at something they can't see because NOTHING IS THERE! Look at Terminator 1 and 2, then compare it to Salvation. Superman 1 and 2 and compare it to Superman Returns!
How does no one see what I see?? I care about the environment, but not as much anymore as they did in elementary school where they stuffed it down our throats, and I won't be caring for much longer if the new cars lose the things I love most just so tree huggers can feel vindicated and happy. ;_;
And people will say I'm waxing poetic, I just don't care.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:24 |

I'm about 65/35 for that only because I do like the R8.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:28 |

Not really a fan of the regular SLS. But I like the SLS Black because it seems a bit more controllable and usable on a track.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:40 |

Progress is progress. We have come from 432 cubic inch 4 cylinders to massive 460 cubic inch V12s and then the slow progression back to 4 cylinders. Regardless of if we want progress to stop it won't. Even if the government did not intervene it would come eventually.
Frankly I am less worried about the progress of of engines and more worried about autonomous driving. When the day comes that people willingly give up the freedom of control is a day I worry the government destroys my freedom to drive.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 14:52 |

I disagree. I think it follows in the proud tradition of the Dino 206/246 in being at least 2 cylinders down of what was expected, but being absolutely gorgeous and featherweight. And coincidentally, the 246 is also my ideal Ferrari (I would compromise for a 275GTB though).

I we're approaching the tail-end of the last great era of drivers' cars.
Even though they're heading out the door, you can still find attainable raw experiences like SRT Vipers, Cayman GT4s, 4Cs, first-gen Ford GTs, and R8 Manuals. But we've also got daily-drivable, 16-way adjustable supercars like the AMG GT S making their way onto the market.
I think some day all of the former category will be heavily sought-after classics. I think a few of the latter will too, but the criteria they're judged for hasn't been authored yet.
I can only say that the 4c, F-Type V6 S, and LFA have earned their spot against the XK120, Dino, and 300SL in my ultimate dream garage.

I share your fears.
The New York Times had an interesting piece this weekend on how Silicon Valley has taken up trackdays as a serious pastime. My hope is that driving is still legal on the roads worth being driven for my lifetime.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 15:26 |

I day the govt prevents me from driving is the day I drive off a cliff in a car full of fireworks and explosives and die in a blaze of glory doing what I love. And I'm considering it because the future as it appears has nothing to offer me.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:17 |

I could see that. We are moving from NA engines to turbo engines. We have moved from stick to paddle. Those changes will define the 00's for car collectors in the future.
I'm glad you said the V6 S. It seems all I hear about it the V8 but I would rather have the V6 S
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:17 |

We can only hope. Only time will tell.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:19 |

Hey future car selection certainly doesn't warrent driving off a cliff. Just lust after pre war cars like me.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:21 |
|
But all these cars won't matter if we can't drive them, past, present or future. ;_;
they'll just sit around as relics and dust collectors like an art collection.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:25 |

I will totally cry if that day comes
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:46 |

That's the day I have the cops chase me off a cliff with fireworks and explosives and blow myself up.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 16:49 |

Might as well go off this earth having fun.
![]() 03/29/2015 at 18:12 |

I see NA engines potentially making a comeback. Flawed testing for EU emissions seems to be the culprit.
But yeah, the V6 Jag is infinitely more desirable to me. Something about the throwback dual exhausts.

There will always be racetracks though?
